             SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL

              LED BY DR. RETT WEBER

For four Sundays -- July 5, 19, 26; August 2 -- we will have a special adult Sunday School class session in the sanctuary led by Dr. Rett Weber of Murray State. The sessions begin at 10 am and end at 10:40 am each of these Sundays. The title of the class is, "What is our role in caring for creation? Using evidence to find answers." This class is sponsored by our Creation Stewardship Ministry Team chaired by Robin Dean.

Here is Dr. Weber's description of his intent.

How strong is the evidence supporting stewardship of creation and environmental justice? The class will begin with a very brief introduction to the history of theologically based environmental stewardship and environmental justice and then examine the evidence supporting both movements. Through this process the class will examine both the quality of the evidence and opposing viewpoints. The course format will consist of a series of questions examined through lively discussions and micro-lectures.

                        REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

Bring  your favorite coffee cup to a meeting....it cuts down on Styrofoam use.  Every year Americans throw away 25 billion polystyrene cups and 25 billion individual water bottles, most of which end up in landfills.  Another important number:  2 1/2 million.  That is how many plastic bottles are thrown away every hour.

Sunday Night Book Club

A new monthly Book Club is now meeting on the 4th Sunday of each month, exluding December.  Through reading and discussion of key works of literature, spirituality, religion, and contemporary life, participants can be greatly enriched.  The Club will meet in the Christian Life Center Conference Room from 5:30 until 6:45 pm.  Childcare will be provided if requested in advance.  If you are interested in being a part of this group, sign up on Sunday morning or call the church office.  Eric Walker and Rev. Richard Smith are the facilitators.
